Big Bear

Jason had a two week break in June between quarters. Unfortunately, I still had to work, but we were able to escape for a few days up to Big Bear Lake here in California. We had a wonderful time and loved every minute of being in the mountains. The air was fresh, the lake was beautiful, and you could see the stars at night. It was great!!

Jason fished a little bit, but only had his fly rod, so it didn't last too long, especially with the breeze that day. But we still had fun hiking along the lake and eating our picnic and simply enjoying the outdoors.

One day we went to the local farmers market and saw that there was a forest fire not far from us. It was neat to watch the helicopter and the plane work to put it out. Fortunately they were successful and the fire was contained pretty fast.

You can't see too well, but the helicopter is dropping the water on the flames. He would then quickly fly down to the lake and hover while he sucked up more water to drop. It was amazing how accurate they were. Pretty fascinating for some reason.

The last night, our friends Kylie and Daniel came up. We went out to dinner and a local BBQ restaurant and played games. The next morning we watched the U.S. world cup came, then went to the lake. We decided to rent a little fishing boat and headed out on the lake for a few hours. It was a little windy, and unfortunately we all got our thighs fried! I guess the reflection from the boat and the lake was a nasty combination or something. My muscles even ached from the sun burn for the next few days. But, we had a lot of fun and were glad the Johnson's were able to join us! We also found a little candy shop in town that became one of our favorite places. They make homemade everything there! It was yummy and we can't wait to go back! It's nice knowing there is somewhere relaxing, in the mountains not too far from here!! Big Bear was a huge hit for us!!
